Face Lift Q & A

What is a mini-facelift?

Dr. Sternschein has found that a mini-facelift is an ideal procedure for facial rejuvenation for most people. A mini-lift involves shorter incisions and less surgical manipulation than a traditional facelift. It is consistent with his philosophy of minimizing surgical intervention and maintaining a natural appearance. During a mini-facelift, Dr. Sternschein can remove excess skin that causes folds and wrinkles, eliminate the appearance of jowls, re-sculpt the contours of your face, and tighten the skin and muscles on your neck.

What is a full facelift?

For a few patients, a full facelift is still the procedure of choice. A full facelift involves slightly longer incisions and more aggressive surgical manipulation.  More areas of the face are addressed. The results are excellent for the appropriate patient.

Which facelift procedure is right for me?

Dr. Sternschein will review your medical history and discusses your desired results to determine which facelift procedure will work best for you. He will then create a custom treatment plan to ensure you achieve optimal results and not an overtightened or unnatural appearance.

How long does the recovery from a facelift take?

Your recovery time will vary depending on the procedure you and Dr. Sternschein choose. Mini-facelifts require much less recovery time. You also experience much less swelling and bruising than with traditional surgery. Most patients can return to work in 3-4 days  (“weekend facelift”). You can expect to see improvement within a week of your procedure. With a traditional facelift, you need between one and two weeks of recovery time before you can return to your usual activities. Initially, you may experience swelling and bruising that will gradually subside over time.

In a follow-up appointment several days after your procedure, Dr. Sternschein will remove your sutures. Within two to three weeks of surgery, your face will be mostly healed and you will begin to see optimal results.

How long do results last?

Both traditional and mini-facelifts provide long-lasting results. A good skin care routine and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen can help you maintain your results and fight off new wrinkles and loose skin.

You should also maintain a good exercise plan and eat a healthy diet rich in whole foods to prevent weight gain from affecting your facelift results.
