Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Rhinoplasty | Nose Reshaping | Eyelid Surgery | Facelift | Ridgewood NJ | Bergen County NJThe nose is the most prominent feature of the human face. For many people, it is simply a part of their good looks and rarely merits a second thought. For countless others, the nose is an almost constant source of embarrassment. Plastic surgical alteration of the nose or Rhinoplasty can make the most prominent feature on your face a permanent source of pride. It can give you a whole new appearance and a new outlook on life.

Years ago, plastic surgeons performed similar operations on everyone's nose. Patients tended to get an artificial or "operated" look. Today, plastic surgeons have the ability to individualize nose surgery. A natural result can be obtained and is crucial. Each patient may want and/or need a unique set of changes that will match their personal facial structure and anatomy. At your consultation you and Dr. Sternschein will examine your nose and face on the computer. After listening to your desires and concerns, Dr. Sternschein will show you proposed changes that will create a nose that is in balance with the rest of your face. Most patients are amazed at how much improvement can be achieved by relatively small changes. After Rhinoplasty, people should notice "how good you look", but most will not know this is due to the reshaping of your nose. Your nose will have a pleasing natural appearance that "fits" your face.

Since Rhinoplasties are individualized to meet the patient's needs and expectations, each operation is slightly different. However, most rhinoplasties include an improvement of the nasal tip, removal of bumps or irregularities, and an overall decrease in the size of the nose. The surgery may be performed as an open procedure with a small externally visible incision through the columella (base of nose) or may be performed as a closed procedure where all of the incisions are hidden. Dr. Sternschein will recommend the approach that is best for you. Recovery is relatively simple with little or no discomfort. The amount of swelling and bruising is variable, but most patients should show very few signs of their procedure by two weeks. At this time the nose will look good, but still have a small amount swelling. Your nose will continue to improve during the long term healing process. You will see the final result in six to twelve months.
