Laser Treatments:
Lasers are wonderful tools that can be used by the cosmetic specialist to treat many conditions simply and effectively without surgery. There are many different types of lasers, each used for various conditions.
Dr. Sternschein is a nationally known laser expert with over 25 years experience using lasers in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Sternschein personally performs all of the laser procedures done at our office. All of our lasers have a significant record of safety and efficacy. We only use lasers with a extensive positive track record. Because we do a large number of laser treatments in our office, we own our lasers- we generally do not rent lasers.
Skin Resurfacing - THE FRAXEL™ LASER
 Fraxel™ is a revolutionary, noninvasive laser therapy designed to dramatically improve skin texture, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, melasma, and sun damage on the face. Because it is so precise and safe, it can also treat other very delicate areas such as the neck, chest and hands.
The Fraxel laser precisely creates thousands of microscopic treatment spots on the skin but also preserves areas of unaffected, healthy skin around these spots. The healthy cells in the untouched areas promote rapid healing of the entire surface, resulting in extremely fast recovery and minimal down time. These treatments stimulate the body's own healing process, resulting in a natural rejuvenation that removes years from your appearance.
Fraxel laser treatments are done in our office. A numbing cream is applied to the face. No other anesthesia is required. The actual laser treatment takes about 20 minutes. Patients can apply make up and wash their face immediately after the treatment. There may be a slight, pink color for 4 or 5 days. Minimal swelling may be noted for 24 hours. Unlike other laser resurfacing techniques, there are NO scabs, NO blisters, and NO raw areas. Most patients can return to work the next day. 4 or 5 treatments are usually required at 3-6 week intervals.

Skin Resurfacing - ERBIUM "COLD LASER"
The Erbium "cold laser" is used for skin resurfacing. It improves wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, acne scars, and smooths the skin. It is extremely precise and gentle. A thin layer of surface skin cells are removed, but the remaining skin is undamaged so healing time is decreased. Usually one or two treatments are required. The procedure is done with light anesthesia at our outpatient surgery center. Following the treatment there will be skin irritation similar to a minor burn for 5 to 7 days. In 7 days, with make-up, patients can return to normal activity. There will be some pink discoloration for approximately 1-3 months. This can be easily covered with make-up. After your treatment you will have smoother, softer, more youthful skin.

Hair Removal - THE GENTLE LASER
 Excessive hair growth may arise from puberty, pregnancy, menopause, heredity, medication, diseases or many other causes. Whether to eliminate chronic irritation (folliculitis) or for cosmetic reasons, the patient who is tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair - from depilatories, epilators and shavers to waxing and electrolysis - will welcome laser therapy with relief. Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin's surface. The absorbed light is converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth. Multiple treatments are required for the best results.
Dr. Sternschein uses a Candela Gentle Laser for hair removal. This is a very quick and effective laser. The laser has a cooling spray that makes the treatments more comfortable. The procedure is needle-free and anesthesia-free, with most patients feeling nothing more than a slight stinging sensation, like the snap of a rubber band. A typical treatment to the underarms takes 3 to 5 minutes. The treated area may be slightly pink for 1-2 hours. There is no recuperation. Patients may return to all activities immediately. All areas of the body can be treated. We offer partial and complete bikini treatments. Unfortunately white and blond hair cannot be treated. Light hairs will not absorb the laser light.
