Xeomin® vs. Botox®
First there was Botox, then there was Dysport and now there is Xeomin (incobotulinum toxin A). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved this new botulinum toxin type A product to treat severe frown lines or “11′s” between the eyebrows. Xeomin is manufactured by Merz Pharmaceuticals, and has been used by more than 84,000 people worldwide. It is now approved for use in 20 countries. Like other drugs in this category, Xeomin works by weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles. It blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscles. As a result, the targeted muscle cannot contract as strongly and wrinkles are reduced or eliminated.
Some patients have developed antibodies to additives in Botox and Dysport, leading their bodies to reject the treatments. But Xeomin contains just one ingredient: botulinum toxin A. Unlike its competitors, Xeomin is a “naked injectable,” meaning that it does not contain any additives. The major benefit of a pure-form injectable is that the human body is less likely to become resistant to Xeomin because there are simply less ingredients in the solution.
Aside from its pure form, Xeomin is quite comparable to Botox. It is measured in the same units as Botox, so it is easy for doctors and patients to convert to Xeomin. Some experts claim that Xeomin has the ability to last slightly longer than Botox—up to six months. With treatment prices ranging between $400 and $600, Xeomin costs about the same as Botox. Since all of these injectables have the same active ingredient, side effects are also similar: minor swelling, bruising, headache, and soreness is considered normal immediately after treatment and should fade within a few hours or days.
Xeomin has been used extensively across Europe to diminish wrinkles and give patients a younger, refreshed look. Its FDA approval in the United States will give those interested in cosmetic treatments an additional option when it comes to wrinkle removal and anti-aging procedures. Xeomin’s results can last as long as six months and some doctors and patients prefer it over Botox injections.
Xeomin is said to be more like Botox than Dysport. It takes about one week for the full effects of Xeomin injections to be realized, and once this occurs the results last from three to six months. Dysport, Xeomin and Botox should not be used interchangeably. They should also only be administered by skilled injectors such as board-certified facial plastic surgeons in sterile environments such as medi-spas or doctors’ offices. Xeomin should not be injected in beauty salons, malls or at Xeomin parties in the home.

 Silicone breast implants are back! After extensive research and studies involving more than 120,000 U.S. patients, the FDA has approved silicone gel implants and they are generally available. The NEW silicone implants are different. They contain COHESIVE GEL (memory gel). This cohesive silicone is not a liquid or a semi-liquid. It holds together uniformly (like a gummy bear) while retaining the natural give that resembles breast tissue. They are a significant improvement over the old silicone implants.
